The Hope Summit - Charleston, South Carolina 🦪

As a media partner, Futureswell covered on the summit by sharing recaps, community driven solutions, and spotlighting resilience in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Hosted by Carolina Ocean Alliance, the Hope Summit gathered local leaders in the Southeast to advance community driven solutions for our water, ocean, and waterways. It also served to honor Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, father of the Blue Mind, and his legacy of reconnecting our world to water.

Australia’s Shark Nets Killing Everything but … 😪🦈

Australia has had a tumultuous relationship with sharks and their presence near popular beaches. New South Wales devised a plan to install 51 shark nets to trap sharks entering areas people frequent, attempting to decrease negative encounters. However 80% of the animals caught in the nets over the last year were not sharks, killing large numbers of of dolphins and turtles. Marine experts and conservation groups are urging the government to remove the dangerous nets and pursue other non-lethal methods of shark deterrents and interventions. Read more

Lab Grown Corals Surviving Heat Waves 🔥

Many young corals grown using an IVF method transplanted onto reefs in the US, Mexico, and Caribbean are surviving record heat waves incredibly well! Most of the new corals survived this years record high water temperatures, while older corals and fragmentation planted colonies showed signs of damage. Scientists think IVF methods increase the diversity of polyps increasing the survivability of the organism. Read more
